![]() I simply added in some clumsy sleeps to fix the maxed out threads. ![]() The client was running 3 threads at full tilt, maxing out 3 cores of my CPU, and the server was doing the same with 1 thread. It then became obvious that there were more issues that were arising due to differences between Windows 95, which the game had been programmed for, and the NT line of Windows. I opened up the executables with a hex editor, scrambled the mutex and semaphore names, and sure enough, that got things slightly working. Upon initial inspection, the type of hang and crash looked like an IPC issue. So, for those that just want to give it a whirl, scroll down for the download link that will automate the install and patch process for those that want more details, read on: I only recently noticed that the true multiplayer SimCity, SimCity 2000 Network Edition, released way back in 1996, doesn't work correctly on any of the NT-based versions of Windows (NT, 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8) and I happened to be capable of fixing that. ![]() So here's a gift for my fellow SimCity fans. ![]()
